Which Type of Tint Is Best For My Auto

It seems amazing that customers are a little taken aback when they call for a quote on tinting their vehicle.  They don't understand why we would offer different types of tint, instead of  just one, like some of the other places they have called.
Usually, they have started price shopping with someone that offers only one type of tint, and have been told by this person that the product they carry is the best and only one they should use.
This of course is NOT TRUE!!  We believe in choices and proudly offer 5 films within three types of tinting for your vehicle.   Below is a comparison of the types of tint we offer, so you can better understand the differences and judge which one is best for you.

  • Good Heat reduction (Definitely better than nothing!)
  • Non Reflective neutral appearance that matches factory tinted glass well
  • Signal Friendly, including: GPS, satellite radios, cellular phones and tire pressure monitoring systems
  • Provides excellent glare reduction for safe and comfortable driving
Mid Level - Hybrid Metalized (Onyx / Black Pearl High Performance)
  • High performance metalized film improves comfort due to maximum heat and glare reduction
  • Neutral look with slight reflection (hardly noticeable)
  • Brownish Black or Bluish Black in appearance
Top Level - Nano Ceramic (Black Pearl IR / Winco)
  • Color stable polyester combined with similar ceramic materials used by NASA
  • Filters out up to 85% to 95%+ InfraRed (the sun's rays that carry the most heat), providing a high heat rejection as good or better than reflective metal films in much lighter shades
  • Low reflectivity and factory match appearance
  • Corrosion Free unlike metal Spectral Select Films!
  • Signal Friendly, including: GPS, satellite radios, cellular phones and tire pressure monitoring systems
All of Our Professional Grade Films have this in common
  • Blocks 99% of UV rays which Reduces fading of vehicle's interior
  • Helps hold shattered glass together in the event of an accident
  • Outstanding scratch resistant coating for maintenance free operation
  • Warranted against fading, discoloration (color change), peeling, adhesive failure, cracking, delamination, oxidation and corrosion as long as you own your vehicle
  • Each type of tinting above comes in various degrees of darkness from legal to Limo (70% to 4% Visible Light Transmission)!
We keep all of these products in stock and are always ready to install any of them once you have made your decision. Our showroom sample boards and product displays will help you to chose the best film for you and your vehicle so...

Understanding Ultra Violet Rays is the First Step Towards Protection

Let us quickly outline the science behind UV films just in time for the hot, sun-filled summer months. Spend a few minutes with us right now so you can better protect; you, your loved ones and your belongings! Why? Because now is the time and later is to late! Window film has never been marketed strongly as a protection against skin cancer, anti-aging and other health issues related to sun exposure but it is the perfect solution.
Let's break it down.

What is UV? There are three types of UV: UVA, UVB and UVC. The sun sends out invisible ultraviolet (UV) rays that are harmful to people, as well as automotive and building interiors. UVA: Approximately 95% of the ultraviolet radiation that reaches the Earth's surface is UVA. It is the dominant tanning ray, and whether exposed to outdoors or in a salon, UVA causes cumulative damage over time. It has long been known to play a major part in skin aging and wrinkling and fading
UVB: The chief cause of skin reddening and sunburn which could lead to skin damage, eye damage, cancer and fading
UVC: The highest-energy and most dangerous type of ultraviolet light, UVC is filtered by the earth's atmosphere and ozone layer, so let's not worry about this one.

Shedding a little light on the subject; Window film blocks nearly 100% of all UVA and UVB rays from passing through glass. The Skin Cancer Foundation recommends a sunscreen with an SPF of 15 or higher. The problem with that is the SPF on the majority of sunscreens sold in the United States only indicates the amount of UVA protection, leaving the customer guessing at how much UVB light is damaging their skin. That is why The Skin Cancer Foundation speaks positively about the coverage window film provides in addition to sunscreen.

Because window film blocks over 99% of all ultraviolet radiation, it has an extremely high SPF that will blow commercial sunscreen lotions, out of the water: from a minimum of SPF 250 to SPF ratings in the thousands. Most people are familiar with the SPF value of applied sunscreen so this number is sure to impress you!

Applying a solar control film to the windows of ones Car, Home or Business is like shielding the interior, and protecting the inhabitants and the objects within.

Most manufactures have many Professional grade films that carry The Skin Cancer Foundation's Seal of Recommendation to assure customers of window film's protective benefits.

Made In The Shade and The City Of Chandler Work together to improve Safety, Comfort and Conserve Energy for It's People!

Made In The Shade Inc, has been working with the City of Chandler for a few Generations to solve Glazing problems. These following examples are what we have on computer but...we are 42 years old, so like many of my articles we can only provide information from what is either computerized (we were computerized when David Ewing bought the business in 1999) or by our memories!

One of the largest was the City of Chandler Court House entry way. This job was bid on, year after year and then came the awful occurrence of 9-11. With the horrific terrorist act came the Homeland Security Act, and consequently many Bomb Blast Mitigation jobs followed. This job was particularly confusing because the facility manager we began to deal with retired and the new staff had to be totally reeducated about the whole process and the benefits of Films. We stuck with it and continually re-provided the same information every few months as we rebid the job. We were eventually awarded the job based on our experience and obviously the price. The issue with the main entry way, was mainly glare reduction and heat reduction for the security staff that are in the main entry way all day.
The glare made it difficult to see the cameras and peoples faces and the heat was almost unbearable because the windows were floor to ceiling (30') and they were East, South and West exposure. The job purposed some sticky challenges; mainly that the City facility manager did not want us o use a lift, because she did not want to move the Security Equipment; so this meant using 30 foot extension ladders! Also we were only allowed to work a few hours on Saturdays. A Silver 4ml Safety Film was chosen for the job, and then Dow 995 was used to secure the film to the Glass and the metal frame. This was just in case of a bomb blast; this would keep the glass from flying in and killing security gaurds and other citizens. The Problem was Solved and the film and sealant are protecting occupants!

The Tumbleweed Tennis Center This project was also bid a couple of times and we won the contract based on our professionalism and ability to solve the Glare/Privacy issue with just the right film! A non reflective 5% light transmission film met the need!

The Tumble weed Recreation Centers new building was next! The issue here was too much heat and light and also a unique visual situation. Patrons of the upstairs exercise area had an ugly view of the roof and other equipment! Made In The Shade solved the problem with a decorative frost film! We solved the problem with the applied product and were promptly paid by the City Of Chandler.

We have filmed many of he Commercial buildings in Down town Chandler, in the Historic district. We needed to use Neutral films that did not look horribly reflective to keep the aesthetic appearance the Chamber of Commerce and Zoning were looking for.

Thank You City of Chandler, Business Owners and residents for allowing us to meet your Window Film  and Tinting and Window Covering Needs! We want to solve your Glazing Solar Energy Problems! Please contact us for Free Helpful and Honest Information Today!

City of Apache Junction Window Film Applications

The City of Apache Junction and Made In The Shade Inc have been working together for many years! We do provide a Large Variety of Services (Films of all types: Sun Control for Home and Office and VehicalsDecorative and Graphic, and Safety and Security. Coverings Of all Types: Blinds, Shutters, and Roller Shades and Screens) so we have the Honor of Serving many of the municipality's in AZ. Here are just a few we have provided for Apache Junction AZ!

We have Filmed several City Vehicle's for various Departments over the years! This helps protect the interiors against the Brutal AZ Sun and the People in the Vehicle are protected from Skin Cancer and Driving is safer because the Glare is reduced and in the event of an accident the film will help protect vehicle occupants from flying glass shards! My 25 year old son Jacob is alive today because, film stopped the glass from spraying his (then 3 year old) Body and face, during an head on collision!

MITS has helped solve sun control issues due to Glare, Heat and Privacy and some times even Decorative!

Apache Junction High School AJ High school had a brutal problem with heat and glare in the main entry lobby. The entry was designed to have a open beautiful feel, but the amount of energy coming through the factory tinted dual pane was to much. MITS Inc recommended a Dual Reflective Night Vision film that stopped 82% of the visual glare and an additional 40% of the heat and all the UV rays! This helped greatly reduce the high temperature swings in this west area of the building. Desert Vista Elementary is another of the schools we have done repeated work for. Decorative frost film was used in the cafeteria on glass doors that separated the lunch area from the teachers lounge. We have completed work for many of the other AJ schools over the years and given major discounts to them because we support learning!

The municipal court house also had a huge energy problem and the same family of films were used on their entry way as the AJ High School! This led to other projects with the City Manager including their main office! The project we are most proud of is the Apache Junction Library! Again the main entry way had excessive glass facing East and West. The air conditioning could not keep up in the summer and the Glare made the main lobby unbearable. This job meant so much to us because we knew that this library meant so much to the people of AJ! What an honor to have been a part of solving their energy problems! We at MITS are so thankful for the work they have given us and we say Great Job AJ for going Green and having LEED certified buildings! You too can contact us to be Green and for LEED certified Films!

City Of Tempe Community Centers

We have been doing installations of window film for the City of Tempe on many of it's facilities for many years and it has been a very rewarding relationship on many levels, and more than just financial. The City has a great mission to its people and community and the staff are always respectful and professional. We usually give special pricing, because of the quality and importance of their mission. Listed here are several of those installations!

Our most recent installation was on the Multi Generational Community Center In North Tempe . The problem was the glare coming through these high (20 to 35 feet) windows facing East and south. People working out in the exercise area and working in the information area were blinded for several hours every day. The facility manager Rick Olafont had used MITSInc. on several occasions to solve other issues in the building with other films (Frost/Decorative and Sun control) and had us out 3 years in a row to measure and estimate this job. Rick had to convince his superiors that window film was going to solve the problem. In our meetings with the staff at the facility we discussed several possible solutions such as exterior sunscreens, huge automated interior sunscreen roller shades and window films
Prices were given for automated roller shades and window films. It was decided window film was the best choice for the problem and we then agreed upon the correct tint and shade of window film. We decided on the Starlite 180 from Madico Inc. This Dual Reflective film cuts over 92% of the visual glare, 99.9% of the harmful UV rays and 74% of the heat on the single pane units and 54% on the dual pane units.
The installation posed many challenges to MITS Inc. and its crew; The network of steel beams meant we would have to move the lift several times and the exercise area pictured above was located under the first set of windows. We had to re route traffic and be careful of patrons too! The height also meant the bucket was going to sway, but thanks to Sunbelt rentals we had the right tool for this job.
The job was started at 8:30 am on a Sunday and finished that evening (Lift out of the building) by 6PM. Approximately 1000 square feet were installed. The message on my Voice Mail from Rick the following week was worth all the hard work! "David the film works great and is doing exactly as you said, and as we had hoped, and it looks great! Good Job and thanks!" I still get goose bumps when I get that response from our customers!
The film will pay for its self in a couple of years just in energy conservation! That is a real Eco bonus and Green Solution!

Kiwanis Park Installations:

We have applied Blackout and Decorative films on the pro shop (we in fact just returned to do more on the Newly Remodeled Pro Shop!) lower windows of the main entrance, Suncontrol films on the rooms at the front of the building facing West, Decorative film on the Life guard facilities for changing and break room privacy, and two way mirror on many observation windows in the Pool Area at the facility at Kiwanis park

Escolante Community Center

The Escalante community center is where our relationship really began with the City of Tempe and its Community centers. The facility manager Kieth was a lot younger and so was I! The initial problem (and installation...LIFT WORK) we were called for was similar to the issues of the North Tempe facility. They had huge Glare issues at the front counter due to the south sun every winter, every day. Back then all we had was 3M film and good old silver (we have a much better and more diversified selection now). We later used that same film on the hallway by the pool to tame the energy from the west sun as it hit the windows directly and as it bounced of the water. We also have applied Decorative films to several rooms for privacy. I am so thankful I met Kieth and we began that relationship some 11 or more years ago! It has been a rewarding and yes profitable relationship, but really it is a great feeling to meet these folks needs...we have huge respect for what they do every day. Thanks Kieth!!!

West side Multi Generational Community Center

One Good Thing Leads To Another! This facility was a direct result of Escolante and was a similar glare issue over the entry way. A Bronze film was used.

Tempe Fire Dept

Although this facility was not a referral from the community centers, the references did not hurt in getting the job! It was a normal bidding process, but our expertise in safety film quickly shown through! At that time I was bleeding 3M red and was a 3M Advanced Certified Trainer, and was pushing the 3M Ultra Films!
This was also a time of heightened alert because of 9-11 and the location was not the safest neighborhood. Safety film was a must and so was Sun control window film. A neutral 4 ml film was chosen to solve the heat glare and safety issues of the good old (NEW) Firehouse!
These are a few of the many projects we have been involved with for the City of Tempe. We have lost track of a few we have done in the shuffle (and computer glitchs), but these are all close to my heart. We appreciate the work and we are so grateful that everyone we have dealt with has been professional and courteous, AND reffered us to others!
The City of Tempe has done a fine Job in their community! Thanks to all at the City of Tempe and remember that all of you that are City Of Tempe Employees receive the normal Previous Customer Discount; this means you recieve 20 to 50% off all Vehicle and RV products and installation, and 10 to 40% of all Window Film/Tint, Window Coverings, Blinds Shades, Screens on your Home or Office!

Window Film and Coverings for The City Of Gilbert

We have done several window film projects for the City of Gilbert and even more for it's residents! We offer Valley Wide Service but because our main office is in the East Valley it only makes sense that we have a huge Gilbert customer base. We have taken the big jobs and the little and the old buildings and new. We have met many window tint-film and covering needs in Gilbert for over 30 YEARS!

 [williamsfld-pool0308.jpg]

All of the life guard stations at the City Pools were in dire need of Window Film! The people inside were cooking because of the east west exposure and the Life guards had no privacy. They also were not able to see all areas of the pool at certain times of the day and this was a hazard. We recommended a dark Dual Reflective film SL 180 that gives the Life Guards daytime privacy, but they can see out!
The heat reduction is 74% and the glare reduction is 92% and of course (as with any professional grade film) all (99.9%) of the UV is stopped! Another big plus is that if the Glass is broken the film will hold it together! Safety Films are also available in Sun Control versions!

Gilbert schools have been happy with our products and services as well! Highland High School has had us out to solve problems a few times. It is usually due to heat and glare. We must be solving the problem because they refer us and keep calling us! And again with children around the benefit of protecting from broken or flying glass is a nice safety bonus that only film can offer!
Thanks to all the people of Gilbert and we appreciate the referrals! If you need us to solve your Solar Energy problems, please let us help you find the correct combination of Film, Coverings or Screens for Your Home Office Vehicle or RV!
